Academic Support Coordinator for Student-Athletes

Position Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Academic Support Coordinator for Student-Athletes. This position is designed as a postgraduate internship lasting between 9 to 12 months, aimed at equipping emerging professionals in academic services for student-athletes with essential experience and skills necessary for future full-time roles.

Key Responsibilities:
As an Academic Support Coordinator, your main duty will be to assist student-athletes within a designated sport program in their educational endeavors. This encompasses understanding and implementing the guidelines established by the NCAA, ACC, and the Commonwealth of Virginia regarding student-athlete eligibility.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Creating tailored academic strategies for student-athletes, aiding in course selection, navigating registration processes, ensuring compliance with degree requirements, and facilitating career planning.
  • Providing academic guidance and support in various areas that contribute to the academic success and holistic development of the student-athletes.
  • Engaging in collaborative problem-solving and decision-making as part of a dedicated team.
  • Adhering to all NCAA and ACC regulations as well as the guidelines set forth by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Monitoring academic progress and eligibility by maintaining accurate records and utilizing grade reports.
  • Assisting in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of student-athlete programs.
  • Participating in signature academic initiatives.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate student needs, including potential evening and weekend commitments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation: $15.37/hr

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week for a 9-month term. This role is classified as a wage position, not eligible for benefits, and is limited to 1500 hours of work annually.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in an undergraduate program; prior experience in athletic academic advising is preferred.
  • Experience: Background in teaching, advising, tutoring, or mentoring is beneficial. Volunteer experience and student involvement will also be considered.
  • Licensure: None required.

Physical Requirements:
This position primarily involves sedentary work with extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel may be necessary for meetings and programs.
