The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team. As a key member of our educational staff, you will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and support to students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, deafblind, and other disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement effective lesson plans and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students with hearing loss.
- Provide individualized support and accommodations to ensure students with hearing impairments have equal access to education.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement inclusive educational programs that cater to the needs of students with sensory impairments.
- Assess and document student progress, using data to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in special education, including American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency and technology integration.
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in special education – Deaf and Hard of Hearing Pre-K-12, or willingness to obtain within 3 years.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License.
- Experience teaching in a classroom setting with special needs students who have sensory impairments.
- Knowledge of child growth and development, and special needs of children with disabilities.
- Ability to design and implement instruction for students with diverse needs, including those who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, and deafblind.
