About the Role:
James Madison University is seeking a skilled Landscape Specialist to join our team in the Facilities Management department. As a key member of our grounds maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical and skilled tasks to maintain safe, functional, and attractive grounds and landscaping.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a range of landscaping tasks, including mowing, trimming, pruning, edging, and mulching, as well as planting, care, and removal of trees, flowers, and shrubs.
- Apply and monitor herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers to maintain healthy and safe grounds.
- Lead the work of assigned wage and summer employees, ensuring efficient and effective completion of tasks.
- Operate a variety of equipment, including tractors, trucks, backpack blowers, and hand tools, to maintain grounds and landscaping.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Requirements:
- Working knowledge of plants, shrubs, flowers, turf maintenance, and general landscaping practices and procedures.
- Ability to operate a range of equipment, including tractors, trucks, and hand tools.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Pesticide Registered Technician's License required within one year of hire.
- Must meet eligibility requirements to drive JMU vehicles within 2 years of hire.
