Position Overview
The School of Arts, Letters, & Sciences is in search of Adjunct Instructors specializing in Physics.
In this capacity, the adjunct instructor will be responsible for delivering educational content to groups of students within a designated core discipline as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
The role of Adjunct Instructor encompasses the following duties:
- Engaging students effectively and providing constructive feedback to motivate them towards achieving course and program objectives relevant to the discipline.
- Collaborating closely with fellow faculty members, the Department Chair, and the Dean to ensure a cohesive educational experience.

Performance Expectations
Specific performance metrics for teaching include, but are not limited to:
- Sending a welcome message to students prior to the commencement of the course, when feasible, and within the first week of the course.
- Recording and sharing a video introduction for each course.
- Responding to all student inquiries within two calendar days, which may necessitate communication over weekends, except during personal time off or recognized holidays.

Communication with students will occur through the designated learning management system (LMS) and university-assigned email.
- Promptly contacting Student Services if a student is identified as not actively participating in the course.
- Reaching out to students via email and phone to encourage their re-engagement in the course.

As supported by technology, the Adjunct Instructor will host a minimum of two one-hour synchronous office hours each week, with schedules posted in each course.
- Providing quality feedback to students is essential.

Quality Feedback Includes:
- Substantive comments focused on content
- Sharing knowledge, resources, and engaging in dialogue with students
- Including track changes for proper use of mechanics
- Offering a summary statement with key observations at the beginning or end of feedback
- Communicating in a supportive manner

Scholarship Expectations
Adjunct Instructors are expected to meet the university's scholarship requirements as outlined in the Faculty Handbook and are encouraged to pursue various research initiatives funded by the university.

Compliance with University Policies
Adjunct Instructors are required to be familiar with and adhere to university policies as stated in the Team Member Handbook and Faculty Handbook.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Physics, Geophysics, Biophysics, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Experience in college-level, in-person teaching is strongly preferred.
- Experience with diverse student populations is advantageous.
- Familiarity with innovative teaching methods in the discipline is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and strive towards common goals.
- Proactive in addressing personal limitations and fostering an environment of honesty and respect.
- Capable of building effective relationships and aligning with peers and partners to achieve educational objectives.
- Innovative thinking and willingness to challenge conventional approaches.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in using various technologies for teaching and student engagement.
- Mastery of APA style is required.

Location:
Onsite at the designated campus.

Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, and competencies.
