Orthopaedic Advanced Practice Provider

Position Overview
As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will operate under general supervision to deliver both acute and routine medical services to a defined patient demographic. Your role will involve providing expert consultation and guidance as a highly-specialized healthcare professional. You may also oversee support personnel in clinical settings outside of regular hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient consultations in a clinical environment, assisting Total Joints Surgeons.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and formulate treatment strategies, implement care, and monitor patient progress in accordance with established practice protocols.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history-taking and physical examinations for necessary procedures or admissions.
- Document clinical findings, noting significant normal and abnormal results.
- Create educational materials for patients and update necessary intake documentation.
- Engage with both pre-operative and post-operative patients and manage prescription processing.
- Assess and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with patients and their families to enhance health outcomes.
- Provide educational support to patients and families regarding preventive care, medical conditions, and prescribed treatments.
- Occasionally assist in surgical procedures.
- Execute both invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
Employment Conditions
- CPR Certification required.
- Annual TB and rubella screenings may be mandated.
- Hepatitis vaccination provided by the institution; candidates may decline or present prior vaccination records.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check is necessary.
- May be subject to a credentialing process; maintaining credentialed status is essential.
- Certification status must be upheld.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree is required; prior experience is not mandatory. Candidates must be eligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's Assistant or hold a State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner certification, or have pending certification as evidenced by a temporary certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in clinical patient care settings.
- Familiarity with EMR Cerner Software.
- Two or more years of directly related experience.
- Specialization in orthopaedics; experience with total joints is advantageous.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with orthopaedic surgeons, nursing staff, advanced practice providers, and outpatient personnel.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, including ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to adapt and learn new electronic health record systems.
- Ongoing skill development opportunities are available for both new and experienced APPs.
