Position Overview: This role is responsible for overseeing the medication management process in partnership with the Medical Staff and Nursing Services. The aim is to organize the operations and responsibilities of the Pharmacy Department in a manner that is efficient, cost-effective, and professional, adhering to the policies of the Hospital and Department as well as relevant federal and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement policies and procedures that ensure safe, effective, and economical medication usage.
  • Maintain a formulary approved by the medical staff.
  • Oversee the storage and preparation areas for medications throughout the facility.
  • Establish criteria for the procurement of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and biological products.
  • Ensure stringent control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or allocated to floor stock.
  • Contribute to the quality and operational efficiency of the department.
  • Supervise all pharmacy personnel, including recruitment, interviewing, promotion, and termination processes.
  • Create job descriptions and performance metrics, providing evaluations and feedback to staff.
  • Address the educational requirements of the pharmacy team.
  • Analyze monthly financial reports and manage expenditures in line with budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of patient billing and financial documentation in accordance with established policies.
  • Administer necessary reports, documents, payroll records, and statistical data.
  • Guarantee compliance with health system policies and pharmacy service regulations.
  • Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for the pharmacy that aligns with the organization’s mission and objectives.
  • Collaborate with associated departments to enhance pharmacy services.
  • Implement and maintain initiatives that improve the quality of pharmacy services and support the organization’s quality improvement strategy.
  • Participate in all required committees and functions, including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee.
  • Foster productive and collaborative relationships with staff and the community.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform patient care responsibilities that meet the specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Adapt patient assessment and treatment methods to accommodate the diverse needs of each patient.
  • Take personal responsibility for ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conduct all duties in a manner that safeguards patient confidentiality and does not disclose any confidential information unless necessary for job performance.

Qualifications: A minimum of 7 years of leadership and management experience is required.
