Role Overview

The Used Equipment Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the complete lifecycle of used equipment, from evaluation and acquisition to sale and disposition. This position is vital in bolstering new equipment sales through precise trade evaluations and the implementation of strategies aimed at enhancing used equipment sales and inventory turnover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess trade appraisal requests and establish retail or wholesale values using various internal and external resources, providing insights to Sales Representatives and Management.
  • Conduct appraisals for customer lease returns to ascertain market value and assist in decisions regarding asset purchases.
  • Manage the receipt of used assets and facilitate their sale to wholesalers or prepare them for retail sale.
  • Travel to various locations to maintain a thorough understanding of used assets and foster relationships at the branch level.
  • Evaluate used retail inventory for necessary repairs or enhancements to maximize value and profitability, collaborating with management on cost approvals.
  • Coordinate with Parts & Service departments to ensure effective support for the used equipment division.
  • Develop and oversee all aspects of used equipment marketing, including financial goals, sales budgets, and revenue forecasts.
  • Maintain Profit and Loss accountability within the used equipment sector.
  • Create detailed descriptions, images, and pricing for machines, distributing this information to sales personnel across the company.
  • Manage used inventory listings on company and third-party websites, as well as in industry publications.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to keep the JESCO used equipment webpage updated.
  • Search for potential used retail inventory through various listing platforms.
  • Assess whether used machines qualify for certification programs that could enhance their market value.
  • Monitor industry trends and the health of the used equipment market, providing management with data to inform pricing strategies.
  • Build an understanding of JESCO's used equipment markets and collaborate with sales teams for targeted customer outreach.
  • Maintain a database of used equipment trade history and customer prospects.
  • Expand JESCO's network of used equipment wholesale channels, both domestically and internationally.
  • Work with financial institutions to develop financing options for used equipment and communicate these to the sales team.
  • Strategically position retail used inventory to align with market demands.
  • Track and report on used inventory metrics, including aging, turnover, and profit margins to drive improvements.
  • Implement industry best practices to achieve optimal profit margins and turnover rates for used assets.
  • Occasionally accompany Territory Managers on customer visits involving complex trade transactions.
