Position Overview The Used Equipment Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the complete used equipment lifecycle, from evaluation to acquisition and sale. This position is essential in bolstering new equipment sales through precise and timely trade evaluations while creating and implementing strategies that enhance profitable used equipment sales and inventory turnover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess trade appraisal requests and determine retail or wholesale trade values using both internal and external resources, providing insights to the Sales Representative and Sales Manager.
  • Upon management's request, conduct appraisals for customer lease returns to ascertain market value and assist in decisions regarding the purchase of used retail or rental inventory.
  • Manage the receipt of used assets, facilitating sales to wholesalers or preparing machines for retail sale.
  • Travel regularly to various locations to maintain a comprehensive understanding of used assets and foster relationships at the branch level.
  • Evaluate used retail inventory for necessary repairs, maintenance, or aesthetic enhancements to maximize value and profitability, discussing costs with management for approval and ensuring timely completion of work.
  • Collaborate closely with Parts & Service departments to ensure effective support for the used equipment division.
  • Develop and oversee all aspects of used equipment marketing, including financial goals, sales and operational budgets, and revenue forecasts.
  • Hold Profit and Loss accountability within the used equipment division.
  • Create detailed machine descriptions, images, and pricing, distributing this information to sales personnel across the company.
  • Manage the listing of used inventory on company and third-party websites, industry publications, and other media to effectively market all used assets.
  • Work alongside the marketing team to maintain the JESCO used equipment webpage.
  • Search for inventory on Deere ERS and other platforms to identify machines suitable for used retail inventory or customer sales.
  • Assess whether used inventory qualifies for Deere's Certified Pre-Owned Equipment program and evaluate if the associated costs will enhance their value and profitability.
  • Monitor the used equipment market's health and industry trends in relation to JESCO's inventory, providing management with data that influences pricing and asset valuation.
  • Gain insights into JESCO's used equipment markets and customers, collaborating with sales team members for targeted customer sales.
  • Establish and maintain a database of used equipment trade history pricing.
  • Track used equipment aging and manage inventory turnover, days on hand, and inventory location.
  • Build a database of used equipment customers and prospects within the company's CRM system.
  • Expand JESCO's network of domestic and international used equipment wholesale channels.
  • Collaborate with John Deere Financial and other lending institutions to facilitate used equipment financing programs, communicating these offerings to the sales team.
  • Lead the branch location of retail used inventory to align with local market demands and potential buyers.
  • Monitor and report on used inventory aging, turnover, profit margins, and other metrics to drive performance improvements and profitability.
  • Identify and implement industry best practices to achieve high profit margins and turnover of used assets.
  • Occasionally accompany field Territory Managers on customer visits involving significant or complex trade packages.
