The New England Conservatory of Music, a renowned institution in the world of music education, is seeking an exceptional artist-teacher to join its faculty. As a part-time vocal instructor, you will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate students in a wide range of repertoire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach individual voice lessons to students with varying skill levels and musical backgrounds
  • Recruit and mentor a diverse group of talented students, providing guidance on their musical development and career aspirations
  • Attend performances and participate in departmental events, fostering a sense of community among students and faculty
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair and NEC administration to ensure adherence to curriculum and pedagogical standards
  • Provide career guidance and mentorship to students, helping them navigate the complexities of the music industry

About the Role

This is a part-time position, requiring up to 12 scheduled teaching hours per week. The opportunity to expand into a full-time role (16 or more teaching hours) may arise based on enrollment needs. Benefits eligibility is contingent upon meeting certain teaching load requirements.

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or master's degree, along with significant performance experience, or equivalent experience as a high-level performer and teacher
  • A minimum of three years of demonstrated success in teaching at the collegiate level, or commensurate experience as a regular guest artist for masterclasses during an extended performance career; conservatory experience is highly valued
  • The ability to teach a diverse range of singers from early undergraduates to pre-professionals
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, and integrity when working with students in an educational environment, as well as effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated dedication to supporting the development of musicians and promoting music's role in society
  • Breadth of knowledge in opera and song literature, including multiple languages, genres, and styles
  • Language and lyric diction competency
  • Awareness of current trends in classical voice/opera conservatory programs and the profession
  • A commitment to NEC's values of cultural equity and belonging

Search Process

Finalists will be chosen by a faculty committee and invited to campus for interviews and teaching opportunities.
