Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Naval Architect to join our team at Life Cycle Engineering. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance and support for our naval vessel projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise in ship stability and weights, ensuring safe repair procedures and maintaining ship stability throughout the availability.
  • Generate production information for ship structure, hull machinery/equipment installation, and accommodation furnishing.
  • Perform naval architecture calculations, including stability/hydrostatic and weight distribution.
  • Develop a Turnover Book for use during maintenance availability.
  • Perform ship inspections and checks as required.
  • Assist in resolving technical compliance issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree in Naval Architecture or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience working with US Naval vessels.
  • Detailed experience in ship stability and docking.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with NAVSEA S9086-C6-STM-010 - Weights and Stability and NAVSEA Technical Publication, Design Practices and Criteria for U.S. Navy Surface Ship Stability and Reserve Buoyancy T9070-AF-DPC-010/079-1.
  • Fundamental understanding of Naval Architecture with practical experience in Stability and Weights.
  • Thorough knowledge of ship maintenance and its impacts on weight and stability.
  • Thorough knowledge of vessel structural design.
  • Familiarity with classification, marine regulatory codes, and international standards applicable to shipbuilding repairs/conversions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years as a Certified Docking Observer (NAVSEA Dry Dock Safety Certification Program).
Physical Demands and Expectations
  • Regular physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, and standing.
  • Frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
  • Ability to maneuver around tight spaces in a shipboard environment.
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipment.
