About the Position

This is a career-defining opportunity to join the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) as a Fire Protection Engineer. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our facilities and personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site investigations and inspections to identify potential fire hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to design and implement fire protection systems that meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive fire safety plans, including emergency response procedures and evacuation routes.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and standards.
  • Provide training and guidance to facility personnel on fire safety procedures and protocols.
Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.
  • Must be able to travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • Must be able to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Your resume must demonstrate the following:

  • Analyzing and designing fire protection systems for a variety of facilities.
  • Interpreting and applying codes, standards, regulations, and policies such as Building and Fire codes.
  • Preparing and reviewing outlines of services, scopes of work, construction estimates, and engineering fee estimates for Architect-Engineer contracts.
  • Preparing and reviewing calculations, cost estimates, project documents, reports, and designs for technical adequacy and engineering practice.

For the Associate Level (GS-11), you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Your resume must demonstrate the following:

  • Reviewing and inspecting fire protection systems for a variety of facilities.
  • Applying codes, standards, regulations, and policies such as Building and Fire codes.
  • Assisting with engineering calculations, cost estimates, project documents, reports, and designs.
