The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) is dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing the welfare of children and families in New York City through various services, including child welfare, juvenile justice, and early childhood care.

In the realm of child welfare, ACS collaborates with nonprofit organizations to assist families at risk of crises by providing preventive services and foster care for children unable to remain safely at home.

The Administration for Children's Services is currently looking for qualified candidates for the position of Youth Engagement Coordinator. This role is a vital component of a multidisciplinary team responsible for the custody, direct care, supervision, counseling, and accountability of youth in the custody of ACS within juvenile detention facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Under direct supervision during assigned shifts, Youth Engagement Coordinators will:

  • Facilitate and support youth in all activities, including educational sessions, daily routines, meals, chores, recreational activities, religious services, court preparation, family visits, and health care appointments.
  • Encourage youth to learn prosocial, academic, and vocational skills.
  • Mentor and guide youth both individually and in group settings, utilizing a behavior management system to positively influence youth behavior.
  • Lead group meetings within the residential unit and other locations.
  • Address conflicts using crisis intervention techniques, including verbal de-escalation and physical intervention methods, ensuring minimal physical contact.
  • Participate as a member of a rapid response team to address emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with youth to implement gang remediation activities and initiatives aimed at reducing bullying and violence.
  • Contribute to the development of individualized and group treatment plans, programming, and safety strategies that support academic success.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, including health, safety, and security protocols related to searches, headcounts, bed checks, and interventions in volatile situations.
  • Monitor youth closely and document observations accurately.
  • Complete necessary reports regarding attendance, incidents, and behavioral observations.
  • Engage in youth admission and orientation processes.
  • Operate transport vehicles while ensuring the safety of youth during transit.

The selected candidate will be offered a salary of $53,341.
