Position Overview

Under the guidance of a Police Sergeant, the Campus Safety Officer (CSO) operates in a non-armed, uniformed security capacity. The primary responsibilities include monitoring the campus environment on foot or via vehicle, enforcing parking regulations, providing escort services, and functioning as a dispatcher within the Public Safety Department's Communications Center. This role serves as a vital resource for information and support related to various public safety operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of the campus area, ensuring a secure environment.
  • Enforce parking regulations and provide escort services to ensure safety during campus events.
  • Manage the daily opening and closing of campus facilities.
  • Operate as a dispatcher in the Public Safety Department's Communications Center.
  • Maintain effective radio communication with law enforcement personnel, prioritizing tasks based on safety needs and officer availability.
  • Respond to routine inquiries and emergency calls.
  • Oversee access control systems, alarm systems, and surveillance cameras.
  • Engage in Community Policing initiatives, offering assistance and resources to the Babson College community.
  • Participate in and facilitate Crime Prevention programs.
  • May assist in training other Public Safety staff as required.
  • Fulfill additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a service-oriented role.
  • Compliance with OSHA regulations, including Hepatitis B vaccination.
  • Familiarity with contemporary Public Safety practices, including patrol, dispatching, emergency response, and crime prevention, with a commitment to Community Policing principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to assess emergency and non-emergency situations effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to maintain and monitor radio communications.
  • Proficient in telephone communication and addressing inquiries from various stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and maintain both paper and electronic records.
  • Demonstrated dedication to providing law enforcement and security services in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques and familiarity with the operational procedures of various departments.
  • Recommended experience in security, health and safety, or emergency medical services.
  • Innovative thinking in task execution and adaptability to change.

Work Environment

Flexibility in work hours, schedules, and overtime is essential. Responsibilities may occasionally require virtual or in-person engagement, including training and community outreach activities, as determined by management.

Physical stamina is necessary, including regular walking and the ability to travel on and off campus.

A valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License is required, along with a satisfactory driving record. Completion of the College's vehicle training program is mandatory within the first 60 days of employment.

All staff authorized to work on campus must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with proof of vaccination required upon hire or within the designated timeframe.

Additional Skills

Good mental and physical health is preferred. Previous experience in security or dispatching, particularly within an educational institution, is advantageous but not mandatory.
