HVAC Operations Specialist

The University of Kansas is seeking an experienced HVAC Operations Specialist to join its team. As a key member of the FS Maintenance Services department, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing industrial and commercial heating and cooling systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect and diagnose HVAC systems, including associated plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on refrigeration and chiller equipment, including associated equipment such as cooling towers.
- Review heating and cooling requirements, recommend modifications, and ensure optimal system efficiency.
- Participate in the installation of new equipment, research procedures, and document processes.
- Apply hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Document prescribed procedures for proactive/preventative work.
- Work with customers to resolve heating and cooling issues.
Training and Development:
- Mentor junior technicians and lead teams to successful outcomes.
- Provide training and professional development on new systems and controls.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five years of industrial or commercial HVAC experience (an associate degree or vocational certification may substitute for one year of experience).
- EPA CFC Certification for refrigerants.
- Experience in repair and troubleshooting of 3-phase voltage systems.
- Valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in low-pressure refrigeration repairs and troubleshooting.
- Experience mentoring or conducting training.
- Experience maintaining equipment inventory and documentation.
- Experience in a university, college, or multi-building campus environment.
