Objective:

Position Summary:

The Senior Financial Accountant plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial documentation, reporting, and accounting requirements for the Hill CDC and its resources. This position is vital for the organization's operational integrity and prospective advancement. The responsibilities are categorized as follows:

  • Accounting, Financial Services, and Grant Oversight: 85%
  • Administrative Functions: 5%

  • Technology and Information Systems: 5%

Accounting, Financial Services, and Grant Oversight: 85%

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Operations and Finance, the President and CEO, and consulting personnel to ensure the timely completion of annual audits and financial statements.
  • Maintain and prepare financial records to monitor the organization's assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and tax obligations.
  • Oversee all accounting-related activities, including budgeting, annual audits, and leveraging financial data to enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Generate monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss reports.
  • Maintain the general ledger and perform bookkeeping and cost accounting tasks.
  • Code invoices, establish new accounts, and finalize monthly financial records.
  • Conduct monthly bank reconciliations, verify deposits, confirm payroll, and respond to banking inquiries.
  • Manage accounts receivable and ensure timely collections.
  • Verify and process payments for accounts payable, ensuring accurate allocation to the appropriate accounts.
  • Negotiate with vendors and follow up on payment plans.
  • Assist external auditors by providing necessary account information and documentation for annual audits.
  • Work with management to allocate expenses appropriately across new and existing grants.
  • Produce grant reports promptly upon request and provide monthly summaries.
  • Account for and report on all contributions related to capital campaigns.
  • File tax documents with federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Coordinate with software vendors to maintain and enhance accounting software systems.
  • Manage the purchasing and invoicing processes.
  • Stay informed about accepted accounting practices and procedures.
  • Collaborate with senior consultants to meet the financial and reporting requirements of the organization.
  • Utilize financial data to enhance operational and administrative efficiency.
  • Support leadership in budget implementation.
  • Oversee and complete the annual audit process for Hill CDC-related entities.
  • Recommend effective financial strategies for the ongoing growth and sustainability of the Hill CDC.
  • Interface with third-party accounting firms as necessary.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Administrative Functions: 5%

  • Coordinate and oversee assigned functions and consultants, ensuring efficiency in support services such as IT, accounting, and finance.
  • Manage critical organizational documents, contracts, and insurance renewals.
  • Design and implement risk management policies, particularly concerning properties and compliance-related matters.
  • Ensure proper filing and accessibility of essential legal and organizational documents.
  • Manage vendor contracts and payments.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Human Resource Management: 5%

  • Assist senior staff with HR information systems and technology-based HR solutions.
  • Research and propose HR solutions that are closely linked to the organization's performance.
  • Support payroll, benefits, and HR practices maintenance.

Technology and Information Systems: 5%

  • Ensure the functionality and accuracy of accounting and financial software for organizational needs.
  • Participate in the implementation of software and technology solutions across the organization.
  • Support the implementation of property-related technology solutions as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial and cost accounting principles.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to convey financial concepts in layman's terms.
  • Understanding of non-profit, grant, and fund accounting.
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to accurately prepare tax reports.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Responsive to management's instructions and needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
  • Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks.
  • Familiarity with Yardi property management software is a significant advantage.
  • Commitment to social justice and equity aligned with the Hill CDC's mission.
  • Experience in procurement, project management, and contract management.
  • Knowledge of tax and compliance standards for 501(c)(3) organizations.
  • Comfortable working in a diverse environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Standard working hours with occasional evening or weekend commitments for organizational events.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license may be required.

Compensation:

  • Salary range between $55,000 and $65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Bi-weekly payment schedule.
  • Comprehensive insurance coverage for medical, vision, and dental (80% employer-funded for employees).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant accounting experience, including at least one year in public accounting.
  • CPA certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Capability to lift and carry files, such as banker’s boxes.
