Overview
The Senior Civil Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing a team of civil engineers within a significant division of the organization. This role entails substantial leadership responsibilities, offering opportunities for innovation and strategic decision-making. The position reports to an executive leader, with performance evaluated based on the success of the team's outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of contract documents, technical specifications, and budget estimates for waterway infrastructure projects.
- Manage construction operations, ensuring quality control and resolving any project-related challenges.
- Supervise waterway management activities, including debris clearance, water quality assessments, and stakeholder communications.
- Coordinate comprehensive technical analyses, documentation, and the exploration of alternative engineering solutions.
- Oversee financial documentation and monitor project expenditures.
- Direct the acquisition of easements, permits, and manage surveying and mapping initiatives.
- Engage with various stakeholders to align project goals with organizational objectives.
- Implement and manage advanced engineering technologies.
- Assign tasks, supervise team performance, and ensure adherence to organizational policies while addressing personnel matters.
Additional Responsibilities
Undertake other duties as assigned by management.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth understanding of civil engineering standards related to water infrastructure.
- Familiarity with engineering design methodologies and operational management.
- Capability to oversee administrative tasks and assess construction methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and proficiency in detailed design processes.
- Must hold a Professional Engineer license in the State of Illinois.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant engineering discipline, coupled with eight years of post-graduate civil engineering experience, including supervisory and administrative responsibilities.
Substitution Policy
Full-time graduate education in engineering may be considered as a substitute for non-specialized experience.
Promotional Criteria
- A minimum of one year of service in designated engineering roles within the organization.
- Must possess civil service status in relevant job classifications.
