Job Title: Senior Civil Engineer

Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design, construction, and maintenance of facilities necessary to collect, treat, and discharge wastewater. This includes supervising subordinate engineers and technicians, preparing work schedules, and participating in the implementation and enforcement of District policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assigns, supervises, and reviews work; instructs, trains, and assists subordinate engineers and technicians.
  • Supervises and participates in the preparation of engineering designs, layouts, and specifications for water reclamation plants and related facilities.
  • Reviews or prepares cost estimates; assists in budget preparation and the monitoring of expenditures.
  • Serves as resident engineer on engineering projects, overseeing the execution of construction projects, inspecting construction activities, and enforcing conformity with plans, specifications, and grant/permit requirements.
  • Coordinates and conducts engineering studies, tests, and analyses; oversees the collection, calculation, and compilation of data and the preparation of various reports.
Requirements:
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in chemical, civil, environmental, sanitary, or structural engineering.
  • Four years of full-time, post-degree civil engineering experience related to the District's activities.
Substitution:

Full-time graduate study in the designated fields of engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

Promotional Requirement:
  • One year of service with the District as an Associate Civil Engineer or Associate Structural Engineer.
  • Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
