Position Overview:
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for the preparation, analysis, and review of financial statements and activities in accordance with established accounting principles. This role also involves assisting with capital requests, budget management, closing processes, conducting internal audits, and ensuring proper documentation for tracking accounts payable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees the management of account entries by compiling and analyzing accounting activities.
- Prepares and maintains financial statements and documentation related to the division's financial status, ensuring availability for reports and audits as required.
- Conducts thorough reviews of financial statements to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Processes payroll change requests to reflect staffing adjustments within the division.
- Contributes to the formulation and evaluation of annual budgets and performance forecasts to support organizational growth.
- Monitors and assesses policies and procedures within the assigned market area, recommending enhancements for reporting and recording to align with business objectives.
- Collaborates with the Region Controller, Regional Vice President, and Operations Management to efficiently execute financial projects.
- Engages in training and development opportunities to broaden knowledge of the company, its products, sales, and services, while fulfilling other duties that support the company’s vision and core values.
Career Path Levels:
Level 1: Exhibits a foundational understanding of commodity pricing and various commodities within the division's inventory. Participates in month-end closing activities, including posting accruals for transactions that missed deadlines, preparing balance reconciliations, inventory calculations, and revenue entries. Familiar with systems such as NetSuite and Sofpak, with the ability to navigate key statements.
Level 2: Demonstrates confidence in utilizing purchase orders within NetSuite and is adept at using master spreadsheets in Longview for Excel. Capable of preparing invoices and explaining net revenue components for hauling operations, while understanding SOX controls related to these operations.
Senior Level: Proficient in reviewing and establishing pricing for divisions, with expertise in forecasting templates. Understands critical contract components and develops a working knowledge of plant operations and equipment. Effectively communicates the financial position of the division using key performance indicators and prepares for the necessary meetings.
Education, Experience & Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree, five years of relevant accounting or related experience, and be legally authorized to work in the United States. A proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment is essential.
Skills:
Exceptional relationship management abilities, along with strong listening, communication, and problem-solving skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, particularly Excel, is mandatory.
