New York Common Pantry stands as one of the largest food assistance organizations in the city, dedicated to alleviating hunger and fostering self-sufficiency through a comprehensive range of services including food distribution, case management, nutrition education, and hygiene support. As a rapidly expanding, mission-focused entity, we are committed to making a significant impact in the communities we serve.

Our organization is on a mission to combat poverty and hunger, reaching over 104,000 individuals annually and providing more than 10 million meals through our diverse programs. We aim to create lasting stability for those in need.

We are currently seeking a Lead Proposal Strategist to become an integral part of our Development team. This role will report directly to the Senior Director of Development and Communications and will be pivotal in crafting proposals for corporate, foundation, and government grants, as well as managing interim and final reports.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary grant writer and proposal coordinator, overseeing the entire grant process, including programmatic and financial requirements.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration with cross-departmental teams to ensure cohesive submissions.
  • Manage a portfolio of over 80 grants, which constitute a significant portion of our revenue projections.
  • Develop and implement organizational systems, templates, and strategies for comprehensive grants management, including proposal submissions, deadlines, and communication with funders.
  • Collaborate with program managers to enhance existing programs and devise strategies that bolster programmatic effectiveness and growth.
  • Stay informed about evolving program and fundraising needs to monitor progress against proposal objectives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing funders through direct communication and meetings.
  • Achieve annual revenue targets and monitor performance against established metrics.
  • Remain knowledgeable about changes in institutional giving landscapes, philanthropic trends, and issues related to food insecurity and poverty.
  • Actively engage in development team meetings and contribute to the overarching fundraising strategy.
  • Generate reports utilizing fundraising software as required.
  • Draft content for newsletters, acknowledgments, and annual reports.
  • Participate in special events and projects as part of the Development team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree is mandatory.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in grant writing for both private and public sectors is essential.
  • A strong commitment to supporting communities in need and aligning with NYCP's mission.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in engaging with funders, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience working collaboratively in cross-departmental teams.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management applications is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of fundraising databases, particularly Raiser's Edge, is a plus.
  • Understanding of the NYC foundation and corporate funding landscape is beneficial.
  • A collaborative team player who values cooperation and teamwork.

Compensation: $70,000 - $75,000
