Position Overview

Key Responsibilities:

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is tasked with the administration of anesthesia for patients undergoing surgical interventions, as determined by the supervising physician. The CRNA reports directly to the Department of Anesthesia's Chairman and Chief Anesthetist, with duties tailored to the specific age and developmental needs of the patients served. The role may also involve assisting in the evaluation of nursing students.

Essential Duties:

1. Conduct comprehensive pre-anesthetic assessments and evaluations of patients, which includes obtaining necessary consultations and diagnostic tests, as well as prescribing pre-anesthetic medications.

2. Formulate and execute a detailed anesthetic care plan, ensuring thorough assessments are performed immediately prior to anesthesia induction. This includes reviewing the patient's medical history for completeness, relevant laboratory results, and noting any changes in the patient's condition since previous visits.

3. Initiate the anesthetic process by selecting the appropriate anesthesia type and managing the patient's recovery from anesthesia, ensuring homeostasis and alleviating pain and side effects while preventing and addressing complications through the administration of medications, fluids, or ventilatory support.

4. Remain with the patient throughout the procedure, monitoring their condition relative to anesthesia status until care is transitioned to other qualified personnel.

5. Document all significant events during the anesthesia process, including dosages and durations of anesthetic agents and other administered drugs, as well as intravenous fluids and blood products.

6. Provide follow-up care and evaluations related to any anesthesia-related complications or side effects, and ensure safe discharge from the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) based on established criteria.

7. Prepare and verify all equipment and agents for anesthesia administration, ensuring they are in optimal working condition, and report any malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.

8. Maintain the patient's physiological stability and respond to any abnormal reactions to anesthesia or surgical procedures, utilizing both non-invasive and invasive monitoring techniques.

9. Manage airway and pulmonary function, employing advanced monitoring methods as necessary, and respond to life-threatening situations with established protocols.

10. Administer induction medications, adjust anesthetic depth as required, and provide continuous monitoring and care throughout the postoperative recovery phase.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- Education: Master’s degree in Nurse Anesthesia is mandatory.

- Certifications: PALS, ACLS, and BLS certifications are required at the time of hire.

- Skills: Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, effective communication skills, and proficiency in clinical duties including intubation and regional anesthesia.

- Personal Attributes: Ability to perform under pressure, make independent decisions, and adapt to varying workloads while maintaining professionalism and composure.
