Job Summary:

As a Surgical Technologist II at the University of Texas Medical Branch, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Operative Preparation: Verify the availability of necessary supplies and equipment for each surgical procedure, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe and well-stocked.
  • Surgical Assistance: Scrub in and assist surgeons and registered nurses during surgical operations, maintaining the highest standard of sterile technique and ensuring that all necessary instruments and supplies are available.
  • Instrument Management: Clean and prepare surgical instruments for terminal sterilization, and maintain accurate inventory records to ensure that all necessary equipment is available for future procedures.
  • Post-Operative Care: Assist with post-operative dressings and help transfer patients to and from the operating table to the stretcher.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the service coordinator to submit purchase order requests for specialty supplies, and work with the surgical team to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
Requirements:
  • Communication Skills: Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with surgeons, registered nurses, and other members of the surgical team.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrate a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Teamwork: Possess excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with surgeons, registered nurses, and other members of the surgical team to ensure the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures.
