Job Summary

To provide expert technical assistance to the surgical team before, during, and following surgery. Assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses to ensure a safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Check and prepare surgical supplies and equipment for procedures.
  • Set up sterile tables, instruments, and solutions, including medications, for the surgical field.
  • Assist in positioning, skin preparation, and draping of patients.
  • Pass instruments to surgeons during surgery.
  • Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures.
  • Assist with postoperative dressings and clean and prepare surgical instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Manage and monitor specialty supplies, and assist in training students and new employees.
  • Collaborate with the service coordinator to submit purchase order requests for specialty supplies.
  • Support new programs and provide updates to surgeon preference cards.
  • Participate in team building and retention of staff within designated surgical services.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program or an appropriate training program for surgical technology.
  • Current certification as a surgical technologist.
  • Five years of hospital or surgical center experience.
  • Current BLS certification obtained through American Heart Association.
