Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join our team at Just A Start Corporation. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of our financial infrastructure and performing various accounting duties to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accounting Duties: Perform accounting tasks in connection with the month-end closing process, including preparing journal entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Support Grants & Contracts Manager: Assist in compiling documentation required for monthly and quarterly billings.
  • Financial Analysis: Prepare select analyses and reconciliations for annual external audit.
  • Payroll Processing: Assist with payroll upload into the accounting system.
  • Cash Management: Verify, allocate, and post cash receipts and other transactions.
  • Cross-Training: Cross-train to serve as backup for accounts payable, credit card/expense report processing, and annual 1099 processing.
  • Other Projects: Work on other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Accounting Experience: Minimum 3 years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytic and accounting skills with a solid understanding of GAAP.
  • Technical Skills: High level of proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software experience (e.g., Sage Intacct, Nexonia).
  • Soft Skills: Very high degree of attention to detail, highly organized, excellent time management skills, integrity, and an appreciation for confidentiality.
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Flexibility, sense of humor, and a team-oriented, customer-service mindset.
  • Professionalism: Positive, professional demeanor and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Requirements
  • Work Schedule: This is a 37.5 hour per week position that requires in-person work at least 2 days per week at 430 Rindge Avenue, Cambridge.
  • Work Environment: This position helps create and maintain a welcoming, caring, and learning culture. There will be opportunities to lead and/or participate in community-building efforts across the organization and contribute to dialogues about and across differences in identity, and regarding cultural barriers, racial bias, and workplace norms and expectations.

Salary and Benefits

This is a 37.5-hour per week hybrid remote/in-the-office position with a salary range of $65,000 to $75,000. In addition to a competitive salary, Just A Start Corporation offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical insurance, dental insurance, short-term disability insurance, long-term disability insurance, life insurance, transportation benefits, early release at 2pm every Friday, 20 PTO days in the first year, 13 paid holidays, volunteer time off, employee assistance program, and a 401k savings plan with a 3% employer contribution.
