Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator/Clinical Instructor

The Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator/Clinical Instructor will be responsible for overseeing the organization and scheduling of all simulation/lab activities, collaborating with interdisciplinary departments to ensure efficient use of the simulation lab. This role will also involve coordinating and maintaining all nursing skills labs, assisting students and faculty as needed to improve student assessment skills and performance of clinical nursing skills. As a clinical faculty member, you will provide clinical oversight for students during their clinical placement, requiring attendance on campus or at clinical sites five days a week with flexibility dependent on college, student, and division needs. Teaching occasional undergraduate-level courses may be required. This position is a 12-month position that will support the academic program, quality, and student success, while also contributing to ongoing professional development.
Key Responsibilities:- Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator: Implements, updates, monitors, and assists with the development of nursing simulation lab policies, procedures, use, and operation.
- Monitors and Schedules Use: Monitors and schedules the use, signing out, and movement of nursing simulation lab equipment.
- Collaborates with Interdisciplinary Faculty: Collaborates with interdisciplinary faculty to provide consistent and relevant student learning experiences to meet course and clinical objectives in the lab environment.
- Participates in Creating Simulated Patient Experiences: Participates in creating, prepping, documenting, and updating simulated patient experiences.
- Maintains and Operates the Nursing Simulation Lab: Maintains and operates the nursing simulation lab, including troubleshooting and working with information technology personnel.
- Assists Faculty with Skills and Simulation Activities: Assists faculty with skills and simulation activities and in establishing and revising the critical elements for performing clinical skills.
- Maintains Current Knowledge: Maintains current knowledge in the application of simulated learning experiences, including continuing education, attending conferences, and/or seminars to stay current with technologies and education modalities.
- Maintains Inventory and Manages Supplies: Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies, linen, and equipment for each lab and manages use of the supplies in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Provides Input for Budget Preparation: Provides input for budget preparation regarding equipment, supplies, and materials for simulation and basic nursing lab.
- Complies with OSHA Regulations: Complies with OSHA regulations and performs inspections relating to storage and disposal of sensitive materials and equipment.
- Clinical Instructor: Supervises and evaluates undergraduate students in clinical practice, observations, simulation experiences, and other similar course and graduation requirements.
- Accurately Completes Student Documentation: Accurately completes students' clinical performance documents and submits all weekly, midterm, and final documentation.
- Counsels or Refers Students: Counsels or refers students with identified clinical performance problems.
- Creates a Conducive Learning Environment: Creates an environment conducive to learning and actively engages students.
- Correlates Clinical Education with Didactic Education: Correlates clinical education with didactic education.
- Provides Educational Opportunities: Provides educational opportunities that benefit students throughout the learning process.
- Incorporates Principles of Learning: Incorporates principles of learning in the planning and implementation of clinical instruction.
- Coordinates with Clinicians: Coordinates with clinicians at the clinical site to make student patient assignments.
- Works with the Division Chair/Program Directors to ensure instructional and program quality.
- Occasional lifting of boxes, supplies, etc., generally less than 25 lbs.
- Some evening and weekend hours are required.
- Masters in Nursing required.
- Must hold a current unencumbered license as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
- Recent experience in the simulation/lab environment with excellent clinical skills.
- Excellent planning, communication, scheduling, and organizational skills.
- Teaching and student support experience.
- Computer experience with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff, and the public.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
