The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Field Technician II to join our team in Reno, NV. As a Field Technician II, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network equipment and circuits, including fiber optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers. You will work under minimal supervision, utilizing established guidelines, procedures, and policies to ensure the integrity of our network and company.

Main Responsibilities
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Troubleshoot network equipment, remove/replace defective equipment, and work with resources to isolate and restore network integrity.
  • Installation and Testing: Perform installation, change, and decommissioning of Next Generation technologies, including Edge Compute, Wavelength services, Fiber Optic Transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers.
  • Asset Management: Utilize industry-standard software and hardware to accurately locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform level 1 preventive scheduled maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure equipment.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Regularly provide status updates and reports problem situations related to assignments to management.
Requirements
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience working with installation, test, and turn-up of various telecommunications equipment, including SONET, DCS, DWDM, routers, and switches.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical and mechanical background with experience on the latest generation transport gear, critical infrastructure, and knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
  • Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Soft Skills: Attention to detail, good organizational capabilities, ability to prioritize, and good time management skills.
