Position Overview:
At Houston Methodist Primary Care Group, the role of the Advanced Practice Provider in Primary Care is pivotal in fostering and safeguarding the health of patients requiring primary care services. This position operates under the guidance of a licensed physician while delivering comprehensive medical care.

Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care for patients in a primary care setting. Responsibilities include conducting physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and making referrals to specialists as necessary. The Advanced Practice Provider may work independently under indirect supervision or as part of a collaborative treatment team.

Clinical Duties:
The Advanced Practice Provider may be a licensed Nurse Practitioner or a licensed Physician Assistant. Nurse Practitioners provide direct patient care in accordance with the Texas Board of Nursing regulations and Houston Methodist policies. Similarly, Physician Assistants deliver patient care as per the Texas Board of Physician Assistants guidelines.

Professional Development:
This position also involves identifying opportunities for staff development and providing mentorship to colleagues. Effective communication, both verbal and written, is essential for fostering a positive work environment and ensuring that organizational information is conveyed respectfully.

Quality and Safety Functions:
The Advanced Practice Provider plays a crucial role in quality care delivery, ensuring patient safety through adherence to established practice guidelines and protocols. Responsibilities include conducting health assessments, identifying health trends, reviewing medications, and developing individualized care plans.

Documentation and Compliance:
Accurate documentation in medical records is essential, including diagnosis and coding. The Advanced Practice Provider is expected to manage resources effectively and contribute to departmental financial targets through efficient clinic operations.

Qualifications:
For Physician Assistants: A Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
For Nurse Practitioners: A Master’s degree in Nursing is required. Additionally, candidates should possess relevant certifications and licensure as mandated by Texas state regulations.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of advanced practice clinical experience in primary care or related fields is preferred. Proficiency in English and strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with patients and healthcare team members.

Travel Requirements:
Travel within the Houston Metropolitan area may be required, depending on departmental needs.
