Additionally, we offer independent research, portfolio strategy, and brokerage-related services to institutional investors.
Role Overview:
We are in search of a Hybrid Associate Portfolio Manager / Risk Control Officer based in Nashville, TN, who will collaborate with the Multi Asset and Hedge Fund Solutions ("MA HFS") Risk Management and Associate Portfolio Management Teams. The primary responsibilities include participating in the trade execution team and upholding the firm's error management and operational excellence/risk framework within the MA HFS Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The Portfolio Management Group ("PMG") assists the Investment team in executing portfolio strategies across client accounts. This team, located in New York and Nashville, oversees the management of all institutional client accounts and funds investing in AB's Multi Asset Strategies. Associate Portfolio Managers (APMs) are responsible for initiating equity, derivative, and currency trades, closely collaborating with Portfolio Managers and Traders while continuously monitoring the portfolios.
The selected candidate will work alongside various departments to assist in documenting and rectifying errors, identifying contributing process weaknesses, and agreeing on enhancements to support our firm's continuous improvement and risk reduction initiatives. The immediate focus of this role is on error correction and reporting, with a significant emphasis on identifying, escalating, mitigating, and preventing further exposures. This position will closely collaborate with the Portfolio Implementation team, and there are numerous opportunities for cross-training and support within the MAS APM team, depending on the skill set of the Risk Control Officer. This role will report to the Multi Asset Strategies Risk Manager.
Key Responsibilities:

- Coordinating with other internal departments, including Portfolio Management, Research, Legal and Compliance, Sales and Marketing, Trading, and Operations.
- Leading project-based initiatives related to process improvement and implementing new strategies.
- Assessing current workflows and processes to identify opportunities for automation and enhancement of manual processes.
- Managing the error/incident resolution process objectively and promptly for the MA & HFS business unit, which includes:
- Collaborating with portfolio managers, associate portfolio managers, or MAS Trading to address market exposure due to trading or client account errors.
- Coordinating discussions among relevant parties to conduct root cause analysis of significant procedural breaches.
- Escalating and notifying senior management as necessary.
- Liaising with the Client Servicing group regarding the impact on client accounts and with the Fund Administration group regarding the impact on funds and establishing necessary communication levels.
- Assisting business and risk management in developing remediation strategies.
- Working with senior risk management professionals to highlight significant areas of concern and required actions.
- Supporting the Risk Manager: Involves error trend analysis and other operational risk projects, including:
- Collaborating with firm-wide error coordinators to share best practices.
- Leading projects to facilitate the implementation of risk mitigations.
- Partnering with Regional Risk Managers on global initiatives impacting the MAS account base.
- Assisting in periodic reviews of Risk Maps with business partners.
- Identifying and monitoring Key Risk Indicators.
- Participating in various working groups and forums focused on managing operational risk.
- Streamlining internal reporting.
- Engaging in Industry Forums.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 2-5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in operational risk or process management.
- Strong project management capabilities.
- Highly analytical with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build consensus among senior managers.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Team-oriented, capable of working within a global team.
- Intermediate understanding of financial markets.
- Knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis.
- Basic coding skills in technologies such as Python and SQL are advantageous.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
Unique Aspects of This Role:
This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals who thrive on process analysis, problem-solving, and continuous learning. It provides exposure to all departments within the buy-side business, our multiple vendors, and senior management across the firm. This role collaborates directly with the Investment Teams, the MAS Trading team, technology, and various operational business partners supporting our account base.
Professional Development Opportunities:
