Role Overview:

We are looking for a Hybrid Associate Portfolio Manager / Risk Control Officer based in Nashville, TN, who will collaborate with the Multi Asset and Hedge Fund Solutions ("MA HFS") Risk Management and Associate Portfolio Management Teams. The primary responsibilities include participating in the trade execution process and upholding the firm's error management and operational excellence/risk framework within the MA HFS Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The Portfolio Management Group ("PMG") aids the Investment team in executing portfolio strategies across client accounts. The team, located in New York and Nashville, oversees the management of all institutional client accounts and funds investing in AllianceBernstein's Multi Asset Strategies. Associate Portfolio Managers (APMs) are responsible for initiating equity, derivative, and currency trades, closely collaborating with Portfolio Managers and Traders, while continuously monitoring the portfolios.

The selected candidate will work alongside various departments to document and rectify errors, identify underlying process weaknesses, and agree on enhancements to support our ongoing program of continuous improvement and risk mitigation. The immediate focus of this role is on error correction and reporting, with significant emphasis on identifying, escalating, mitigating, and preventing further exposures. This position will also closely interact with the Portfolio Implementation team, providing opportunities for cross-training and support within the MAS APM team. The role will report to the Multi Asset Strategies Risk Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborating with internal departments such as Portfolio Management, Research, Legal and Compliance, Sales and Marketing, Trading, and Operations.
    • Leading project-based initiatives focused on process improvement and the implementation of new strategies.
    • Assessing current workflows and processes to identify opportunities for automation and enhancement.
    • Managing the error/incident resolution process efficiently and objectively for the MA & HFS business unit, which includes:
      • Collaborating with portfolio managers and associate portfolio managers to address market exposure resulting from trading or client account errors.
      • Coordinating discussions among involved parties to conduct root cause analysis of significant procedural breaches.
      • Escalating and notifying senior management as necessary.
      • Engaging with the Client Servicing group regarding impacts on client accounts and with the Fund Administration group regarding fund impacts.
      • Assisting business and risk management in developing remediation strategies.
      • Working with senior risk management professionals to highlight critical areas of concern and required actions.
  • Risk Management Support:
    • Assisting the Risk Manager in analyzing error trends and other operational risk projects, which involves:
      • Collaborating with firm-wide error coordinators to exchange best practices.
      • Leading initiatives to facilitate the implementation of risk mitigations.
      • Partnering with Regional Risk Managers on global initiatives impacting the MAS account base.
      • Assisting in periodic reviews of Risk Maps with business partners.
      • Identifying and monitoring Key Risk Indicators.
      • Participating in various working groups and forums focused on managing operational risk.
      • Streamlining internal reporting processes.
      • Engaging in industry forums.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in operational risk or process management.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Highly analytical with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to achieve consensus among senior management.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A team player capable of functioning within a global team environment.
  • Intermediate understanding of financial markets.
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis.
  • Basic coding skills in technologies such as Python and SQL are advantageous.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
