Position Summary: We are currently looking for a dedicated Asphalt Plant Operator Trainee to manage the controls of asphalt plants. This role involves weighing and delivering precise quantities of aggregates and asphalt cement to the dryer for heating, and subsequently to the mixer for blending and loading into trucks. The operator will ensure optimal heating in the dryer by adjusting thermostatic controls and maintaining the proper flow of materials. Additionally, they will assist in the upkeep of plant equipment and compile reports regarding production and maintenance activities. Other related responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate asphalt plant controls efficiently.
  • Weigh and deliver aggregates and asphalt cement accurately.
  • Adjust heating controls to maintain proper temperatures in the dryer.
  • Assist in the maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Compile production and maintenance reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires various physical motions including climbing, bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Candidates must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing stairs or ladders to access different levels of the plant. Tools utilized in this role may include sledge hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, and pneumatic drills.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma with strong mathematical skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an Asphalt Plant Operator is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Astec double barrel components and Gencor controls is advantageous.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
