Please Note: The posted salary range is the full range for this position. Agency salary policy, budget, and candidate's qualifications will dictate final salary offer. Typically, salary offers are at or near the midpoint of the range, depending on the qualifications or other factors.

Designation Coordinators are registered nurses who work under limited supervision, with considerable latitude and independent judgment. The designation coordinator performs advanced (senior-level) nursing work; participates in validation surveys, resurveys, initial surveys, investigations, and follow-up visits related to the designation survey process. The designation coordinator evaluates the facility's designation requirements to identify if they are met, or if they are not met and defines a corrective action to meet the requirements. The defined turn-around time for the designation coordinator to complete the designation application's review and provide a recommendation to the manager is within thirty days of receipt of the application. The designation coordinator prepares and completes defined reports on a timely basis. The designation coordinator serves as a preceptor for orientation of new surveyors and program managers. The designation coordinator represents the department at stakeholder meetings. May be requested to assist in a variety of roles during emergency situations or in other activities as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  2. (40%) Designation Requirement Review. Conduct desk reviews, on-site surveys of facilities seeking initial designation or re-designation, to determine if applicable designation requirements, regulations, and rules are met. Designated facilities that are surveyed are specific to neonatal, maternal, trauma, and stroke levels of care. Work includes compiling, review, and analysis of complex, technical information derived from clinical record reviews, facility program management and business record reviews, patient, and facility staff interviews, and onsite observations. Evaluates management, supervision, and quality of care delivery defined in the appropriate designation rules. Determines the action plans required from the designation survey reports, investigates any complaint and non-compliance with designation requirements, and documents surveys analysis and investigation findings in written reports. Reviews recommendations for the facility's performance improvement action and if applicable, refers to other regulatory entities as appropriate, such as hospital licensing. Submits travel vouchers timely, accurately, and according to policy; enters leave in CAPPs timely.
  3. (30%) Training. Plans, assigns, and performs analysis of the work for designation reports and defines needs for training and facility designation education. Provides consultation and serves as a preceptor and mentor in the orientation and initial training of newly employed designation surveyors and program managers. Provides technical assistance to the facilities seeking designation to assist them in preparing and coordinating their survey. Assists management and program staff in the development and implementation of the performance improvement and quality assessment process.
  4. (15%) Public Relations. Represents the agency by providing information, collaborating with stakeholders, customers, other state agencies, state, and national partners. Provides consultation and presurvey conferences to designated facilities, facilities seeking designation, and providers to assist them in understanding the designation requirements and meeting these requirements, in addition to the associated documentation required to reflect the requirement is met. Responds to inquiries and requests from providers and healthcare facilities regarding designation rules and the survey process, both verbally and in writing, and may conduct this business through virtual meetings.
  5. (10%) Regional Advisory Council Participation: Shares updates on the designation process, rules, and survey process at the regional advisory council meetings, and established technical assistance programs. Provides clarity and answers questions from the stakeholders regarding the designation process and the designation requirements. Serves as a resource to facilities seeking designation. Provides instructions and insight for completing the designation applications and pre-survey questionnaire at the regional level.
  6. (5%) May include active participation in surveys or active participation during an emergency response event or a disaster recovery effort, serving in a supporting role during a disaster response and assisting in work to maintain continuity of operations of the agency during a disaster response and/or recovery effort.

  • Ability to use computers and computer software for word processing, database, management, and report writing.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Registered Nurse Licensed in the State of Texas. Must be registered as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Bachelor's degree in nursing required.

Initial Selection Criteria:

Graduation from an accredited nursing program with experience in the assigned designation clinical areas. Must have at least five years of registered nurse experience and knowledge working in a facility that has a level of designation or provides equivalent care if applying from out of state and the state does not have designation processes. Experience providing and directing the delivery of treatment and services in a clinical environment in hospitals. Must have experience in performance improvement or quality assessment. Prefer experience as a program manager.
