**Position: Security Officer - Mercy Health**

Mercy Health is devoted to safeguarding the well-being of employees, volunteers, students, patients, and visitors, ensuring a secure environment for patient care, business operations, and the protection of hospital assets. Under the guidance of the Mercy Health Director of Safety and the Police Department, and the management of the Chief of Police, the Security Officer is tasked with enforcing established safety and security protocols while fostering a welcoming, service-oriented atmosphere.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:**

1. Safeguards patients, visitors, and staff by providing escorts, conducting patrols, and addressing safety hazards within the environment of care.

2. Prevents vandalism, theft, and property damage through regular patrols of all hospital premises, including interior areas and parking facilities.

3. Upholds hospital regulations such as parking rules, visitation guidelines, drug enforcement, and the tobacco-free policy.

4. Monitors hospital activities via closed-circuit television to identify any escalating situations that may necessitate security intervention.

5. Intervenes in confrontations involving patients, visitors, or staff as necessary.

6. Communicates with dispatch regarding all performed duties and accurately documents various incidents.

7. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency protocols, alarm responses, evacuation procedures, and disaster plans.

8. Responds to emergencies and hospital alarms as designated.

9. Completes required training and education to maintain departmental competencies and certifications, including the IAHSS Basic Training Module within 90 days of hire.

10. Remains at assigned posts and fulfills all specific duties, ensuring that police vehicles and posts are kept clean and organized.

11. Adheres to hospital policies regarding attendance, confidentiality, dress code, and safety protocols.

12. Maintains a professional demeanor at all times while on duty.

**ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:**

1. Accepts assignments from Police Department Management to meet operational needs.

2. Inspires and models positive customer service behaviors, fostering teamwork and collaboration.

3. Participates in scheduled emergency management exercises and drills.

4. Conducts safety inspections and equipment checks regularly.

5. Completes police reports accurately and in a timely manner.

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

EDUCATION:

- High School Diploma required.

- Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certificate is necessary.

- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

- I.A.H.S.S. Basic Training and Certification for Healthcare Security Officer within one year of hiring.

EXPERIENCE:

- 1-2 years of law enforcement or criminal justice training preferred.

ESSENTIAL CERTIFICATIONS:

- Valid Ohio driver’s license.

- Successful qualification with duty weapons as required.

- Completion of AED-CPR training as per departmental policy.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

- Familiarity with LEADS and NCIC systems.

- Understanding of laws, ordinances, and the Ohio Criminal Code.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Ability to make informed decisions based on analysis and judgment.

- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
