Position Summary

Join Ten Thousand Villages as a dynamic Retail Operations Leader, responsible for overseeing the daily functions of our store.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Management:

Lead and manage a team of staff and volunteers by:

  • Conducting interviews and hiring processes.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing tasks.
  • Evaluating performance and providing feedback.
  • Addressing complaints and resolving issues to ensure excellent customer service.

Collaborate with the Executive Committee to design staffing strategies and develop position descriptions that align with organizational growth.

Retail Operations:

Engage actively on the sales floor by:

  • Managing shifts and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Maintaining optimal inventory levels and attractive merchandise displays.
  • Communicating with vendors and landlords to address operational concerns.

Regularly assess the sales floor, interact with team members and customers, and address urgent matters promptly.

Marketing and Customer Engagement:

Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract customers in the local area while:

  • Monitoring market trends and competitor activities.
  • Supervising public relations efforts and promotional campaigns.

Enhance knowledge of the organization’s mission and the artisans behind the products, sharing insights with customers and volunteers.

Financial Management:

Oversee financial procedures by:

  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Collaborating with the Board treasurer on sales and financial data.
  • Utilizing staff resources to support fundraising initiatives.

Communication:

Maintain open lines of communication with the Board by:

  • Reporting on store activities and future plans.
  • Addressing resource needs outside the approved budget.
  • Representing the organization in public forums.

Additional Responsibilities:

Execute Board-approved policies and participate in committee work as needed, including finance and marketing.

Accountability:

The Retail Operations Leader is accountable to the Board, with performance reviews conducted at regular intervals.

Qualifications:

1. 3-5 years of experience in retail management or sales.

2. Self-motivated and enthusiastic with a passion for customer interaction.

3. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

4. Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.

5. Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire a team.

6. Capability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.

7. Commitment to the mission and goals of Ten Thousand Villages.
