Position Overview:
As a key member of the executive leadership team, the Vice President of Human Resources will report directly to the President and CEO. The incumbent will be responsible for crafting and implementing a comprehensive human resource strategy that aligns with the organization's overarching business objectives, focusing on recruitment, performance management, training, compensation, benefits administration, policy governance, and compliance with HR regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute innovative talent acquisition strategies to attract and retain exceptional talent.
  • Lead the design and rollout of effective onboarding, long-term engagement, performance management, and professional development initiatives.
  • Mitigate legal risks by ensuring adherence to all relevant employment laws and regulations, maintaining an up-to-date employee handbook.
  • Serve as the primary resource for ethical and behavioral staff issues, providing coaching and support to management.
  • Ensure compliance in job descriptions across all organizational levels, aligning with YMCA of Delaware standards.
  • Consult with branch personnel on various HR matters, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Guide the HR team in creating a cohesive and efficient work atmosphere.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the organization's goals, mission, financial status, strategy, competition, technology, and culture.
  • Oversee the HR department's annual budget and resource allocation.
  • Manage processes related to workers' compensation, unemployment, insurance, and disability claims.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to optimize benefit administration annually.
  • Analyze employee feedback through surveys and focus groups to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and advancements in human resources and talent management.

Accountability:

  • Direct supervision of full-time and part-time HR staff, along with seasonal employees.
  • Fiscal responsibility for the HR department budget.
  • Strategic support for approximately 200 full-time and 2,000 part-time and seasonal staff.
  • Leadership role in the HR/Compensation Board committee.
  • Active participation in various organizational committees.
  • Facilitation of key Association events, including staff meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as leadership development, organizational development, or human resources.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in leadership development, organizational development, or human resources within a complex environment.
  • Proven track record as a strategic advisor across all organizational levels.
  • Extensive knowledge of HR functions, including talent management, recruitment, compensation, and performance management.
  • Strong proficiency in HR technology and software.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, change management, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Current understanding of employment trends and their implications for organizational strategy.
  • Familiarity with employee relations principles and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in a senior management capacity.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • SHRM Certification or equivalent.
  • Multi-lingual abilities.
