Job Summary

VRC Companies is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Release of Information Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our VitalChart department, you will be responsible for processing medical records requests in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Release of Information Requests: Access and process medical records requests from healthcare clients, prioritizing requests based on turnaround timeframes and procedures.
  • Request Validation: Validate requests and signed patient authorizations for compliance with HIPAA and other applicable federal and state statutes.
  • Request Classification: Classify request types correctly and log requests into our ROI software.
  • Medical Record Retrieval: Retrieve and upload requested portions of patient medical charts from electronic or physical repositories.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy of releases and prevent breaches of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Invoicing and Billing: Create invoices and billing materials for clients and ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Communication: Respond to requestor inquiries in an informative, respectful, and efficient manner.
  • Confidentiality and Security: Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information at all times.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma (GED) required; degree preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience with ROI fulfillment preferred.
  • Skills: Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to prioritize and organize tasks, and strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge: Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA preferred.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work 8 hours quietly at a computer screen and keyboard/mouse, withstanding pressures of constant deadlines and changing healthcare environment.
  • Physical Abilities: Manual dexterity and strength sufficient to enter information via computer keyboard, write notes, and pick up paperwork and supplies.
  • Visual and Hearing Abilities: Eyesight sufficient to read documents and view information on a computer monitor, and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively.
