An exciting opportunity awaits at our corporate headquarters for an Operations Senior Manager within our Publishing Operations team. This hybrid role requires in-office presence for two days each week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Publishing Operations

  • Design and optimize operational workflows that enhance business management; ensure that processes are clearly defined, well-documented, accessible, and current.
  • Implement the strategic planning framework for the Publishing division, establishing a systematic approach for ongoing evaluation of progress toward objectives and adapting to changes in both external and internal factors.
  • Facilitate effective communication, collaboration, and resource planning for both new and ongoing initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Director to identify new opportunities and scenarios, ensuring thorough analysis of rationale, costs, risks, and benefits.
  • Draft business plans for new initiatives that outline the rationale, costs, risks, and opportunities involved.
  • Develop and oversee new processes and procedures to guarantee timely, accurate, and collaborative workflows across business units.
  • Manage publishing operations processes, including performance planning, goal tracking, IT requirements, and onboarding of new personnel.
  • Generate analytical reports and present findings to leadership to guide operational processes.
  • Collaborate with the Director and Publisher on business planning, identifying risks and providing recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and business optimization.
  • Supervise administrative operations within publishing to ensure effective and efficient support.

Project & Process Improvement Planning

  • Establish and maintain a proactive planning process for potential projects and resource requirements, developing a system for prioritization and communication of project resources.
  • Oversee the prioritization of project management resources to align with Publishing goals, in collaboration with JAMA Network Editorial and the Director.
  • Lead the creation of a framework for continuous internal improvement across the Publishing sectors.
  • Manage vendor relationships, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness, and that vendors fulfill contractual obligations.

Staff Management and Engagement

  • Guide, mentor, and oversee professional staff, setting objectives, assessing performance, and fostering staff development.
  • Collaborate with the Director to cultivate a strong Publishing Team, emphasizing team culture, talent development, and the integration of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree (e.g., MBA or PMP Certification) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of demonstrated experience in Publishing across various organizational functions, with the ability to facilitate discussions among high-level executives to develop prioritization plans.
  • At least 3 years of experience in staff management, with a proven ability to lead and mentor talent, and to build and motivate teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in translating organizational goals into actionable programs and projects, with the ability to navigate uncertainty and drive projects to completion.
  • Proven track record in implementing process improvements within an organization.
  • Experience in a dynamic publishing environment and familiarity with industry trends, standards, and competition is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in resource allocation and management across projects, with the ability to communicate and assess project risks as necessary.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with individuals at all organizational levels.
