Washington, United States The George Washington University Full time

Job Overview

Position Summary:

The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) stands as a premier institution in the realm of international studies. Nestled in Washington, DC, our mission is to cultivate future global leaders, engage in impactful research, and connect with the policy-making community both domestically and internationally.

The Academic Affairs and Student Services divisions at the Elliott School oversee the educational framework for both undergraduate and graduate programs, manage enrollment, and provide comprehensive student support services, including academic guidance, career services, international education, and student organizations. Fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment is a fundamental principle of our institution.

Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Associate Director of Academic Programs plays a pivotal role in managing the centralized Academic Programs Office.

This position entails collaboration with senior leadership, academic deans, program directors, faculty, and administrative staff. The Associate Director is tasked with the development, execution, and assessment of academic programs across the Elliott School, providing guidance to subordinate administrative and program staff. In partnership with assistant deans and faculty, this role is instrumental in program design, development, and outreach initiatives that ensure the ongoing success and enhancement of the School.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Supervises a team of full-time professionals and program coordinators.
  • Oversees staff performance by establishing team objectives, offering training, and providing regular feedback and evaluations.
  • Assesses workload and assigns tasks to team members accordingly.
  • Recruits, interviews, and trains new staff, including Federal Work Study students, while planning for future staffing requirements.

Program Oversight

  • Contributes to strategic planning and goal-setting initiatives within ESIA.
  • Acts as the primary administrative contact for all curriculum development activities, coordinating with program directors and other university offices.
  • Manages various projects, including surveys and student applications, to enhance curriculum quality and program development.
  • Collaborates with deans to draft and finalize assessment-related reports and maintain oversight of courses and programs.
  • Conducts market research and analysis to inform program offerings and strategic planning.
  • Supports ESIA leadership in the management and administration of assessment-related software and data systems.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Admissions, oversees existing international partnership agreements, focusing on curriculum alignment and quality assurance.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. The absence of specific tasks does not prevent the supervisor from assigning related responsibilities.

This position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring both in-person and remote work.

The Elliott School is committed to fostering an inclusive community, recognizing that diversity and social mobility are vital assets in our global engagement. We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply.
