Key Responsibilities

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and identify opportunities for the company to create new innovative materials and processes that align with future applications and market demands.
  • Lead the development of market-driven next-generation and entirely new products, including generating intellectual property to keep the company at the forefront of solving customer challenges.
  • Oversee technicians and engage hands-on in the laboratory; this position is not remote.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations and Engineering to build strong internal relationships at all levels, facilitating new product trials, understanding operator challenges to enhance manufacturability, and supporting the Process Engineering team with material or formulation adjustments.
  • Educate and assist the Sales team in grasping the key advantages of new products to ensure successful market introduction.
  • Analyze the performance of existing products and characterize materials, becoming the authority on current product lines.
  • Prepare technical documentation, deliver presentations at industry conferences, and participate in technical events to showcase the company's leadership in innovation.
  • Engage with customers for product testing and trials, providing technical support to ensure optimal product selection with the appropriate characteristics for specific applications.

Candidate Profile

  • A Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, or a related field is essential. An advanced degree is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industrial experience in formulating polymer-based products, particularly in coatings technology and formulation, is required.
  • Significant cross-disciplinary experience in product and process development; a passion for laboratory work while also being comfortable supporting production processes.
  • A solid understanding of structure-property relationships, particularly regarding material interactions, with proven practical application in real-world problem-solving and product innovation. Direct experience with composites and/or laminated materials is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and material characterization skills, including statistical and failure analysis; capable of identifying root causes and proposing effective solutions.
  • A results-oriented approach to practical problem-solving, focusing on outcomes rather than processes.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and presentation skills; comfortable presenting to diverse audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • High emotional intelligence and diplomatic skills; adept at influencing and collaborating without direct authority.
  • A good sense of humor and a balanced ego are essential attributes.
  • Willingness to relocate and travel as required.
