The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialists, commonly referred to as MRI Technologists, are essential healthcare professionals responsible for operating magnetic resonance imaging machines to produce diagnostic images.

These images are subsequently provided to physicians for evaluation and diagnosis. The MRI Specialist must remain well-versed in standard practices, concepts, and procedures relevant to the field.

This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare imaging facilities in accordance with established protocols; calibrate and adjust imaging equipment as necessary.

Prepare contrast materials and ensure patient safety by screening for any contraindications that may pose risks to their health or the safety of others.

Assist radiologists by evaluating patient conditions and obtaining necessary documentation for the administration of contrast media. Initiate IVs and administer contrast agents for imaging studies, while monitoring patients for any allergic reactions post-administration.

Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment following established procedures and standards.

Determine the appropriate imaging techniques and methodologies; arrange for patient immobilization and support devices to ensure proper positioning; select the suitable imaging apparatus.

Gather patient medical history, explain imaging procedures, address any patient concerns, and adhere to established pre-screening protocols.

Prepare patients for MRI examinations, position them correctly for the prescribed procedures, and assist them upon completion of the imaging.

Follow prescribed protocols during MRI studies and monitor patients' physical conditions throughout the procedure, reporting any changes or emergencies to the supervising physician or clinical staff.

Proficiently manage administrative tasks related to Electronic Medical Records.

Evaluate MRI scans for technical quality and ensure proper labeling.

Maintain accurate patient records, including computerized documentation.


ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

Manage inventory of supplies, assist in procurement decisions, record procedure codes for billing, and schedule patient appointments.

Ensure the proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental practices.

Troubleshoot equipment issues and document any errors or malfunctions, escalating concerns to the supervisor as needed.

Perform tasks within the scope of educational preparation and in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines, as well as facility policies.

Actively engage in CARTI research initiatives as required.



ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel may be necessary to provide coverage at various locations as needed.



SUPERVISORY ROLE:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:

Must be a graduate of an accredited educational program or military training.

Current ARRT (R) certification for Radiography OR Current ARRT (MR) certification OR ARRT (R)/(MR) is required.

If ARRT (R) certified, a valid Radiologic Technology License from the State of Arkansas is mandatory.

BLS certification is also required.


EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

A minimum of one year of full-time experience or relevant educational experience within the last three years in a similar role or accredited program.

Proficient in utilizing computer systems for processing patient and departmental information.

Skilled in administering contrast agents for imaging procedures and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Ability to clearly explain procedures to patients and possess knowledge of medical terminology.

Strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation for effective documentation and report editing.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to address practical problems and navigate various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions presented in written, oral, or scheduled formats.


INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Frequent interaction with physicians, departmental personnel, and external agencies while maintaining patient confidentiality is essential.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical requirements for this position include regular communication, standing, walking, sitting, and using hands for various tasks.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role may involve exposure to infectious diseases, with appropriate vaccinations and safety training provided to staff.
