Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Technician to join our team at the City of Bangor, Maine. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for all City workspace systems and peripherals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and provide technical support for employee computers and associated devices.
  • Document all new and existing systems, procedures, and network diagrams.
  • Assist with local server/switch system maintenance, including hardware/software installation and/or upgrades.
  • Support Microsoft Office 365 apps, including email and anti-virus applications.
  • Support backup/restore hardware, software, and IT policies pertaining to data and system backup.
  • Install and assist with IP-based camera systems and assist with the management of Access Control Systems.
  • Instruct and train users on various IT systems and IT standards and policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Information Technology Administrator.
Requirements
  • A high degree of discretion when working with sensitive data, equipment, and areas.
  • Incumbent is expected to maintain confidential information and refrain from disclosing to any other party any information deemed confidential.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field of study is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Thorough understanding of computers, including mobile computers, client-server hardware, operating systems, applications, and communication software.
  • Working knowledge of City governmental agencies and operations is desirable.
  • Possession of interpersonal communication skills and ability to express self orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of various Operating Systems, such as Windows, Linux, and some familiarity of VMWare.
  • Basic understanding of networks and system diagnostic tools for networking.
  • Knowledge of imaging/cloning software for deployment of systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 apps (Word, Excel, Access, and Exchange), and Adobe Software.
  • Familiar with Anti-virus and Anti-Spam application software.
  • Ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences, including non-technical.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision at solving problems.
  • Works in conjunction with all Information Services staff in all areas of system-wide and network management as needed.
  • Ability to quickly learn and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to document and maintain modifications to existing systems.
Working Conditions

Incumbent performs duties according to priorities set by the Information Technology Administrator. Most work is accomplished according to general guidelines that require judgment in selection or adaptation of standard practices and procedures to obtain desired results.

Responsibility

Incumbent makes a substantial contribution to the effectiveness of the City's information technology operations and is responsible for a variety of server and personal computer hardware and software within City government.

Personal Work Relationships

Incumbent maintains contact with a wide variety of City personnel at all levels, as well as outside agencies or vendors relating to the effective operation of the City's information technology resources.

Pay and Benefits

Pay range for this position: $28.29 to $37.98 per hour (37.5 hours/week), based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance as well as a retirement plan with employer contribution, group life insurance, and accrued leave time.
