Position Overview

The Towson University Police Department is actively seeking qualified candidates for the role of Senior University Law Enforcement Officer. This position is essential for upholding State Laws and University policies while executing a range of law enforcement responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage patrol operations, including assigning duties and setting work priorities; provide guidance and instruction to personnel during patrol shifts; assist in scheduling and overseeing daily operations; review and assess the performance of subordinate staff; and initiate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Conduct inspections of police and support staff during patrol shifts to ensure adherence to departmental standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare, maintain, and evaluate various operational and administrative documentation, including reports, logs, and records.
  • Enforce Maryland State laws; carry out preliminary and follow-up investigations; patrol designated campus areas to maintain a visible presence and enforce university parking regulations while determining appropriate actions.
  • This role is classified as ESSENTIAL personnel, requiring candidates to be available for various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent; certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission within the last three (3) years, along with a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a sworn police officer.
  • Preferred: Three (3) years of supervisory experience in law enforcement.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland non-commercial class C or equivalent driver's license with no more than 5 points.
  • Additional related experience and formal education may substitute for the established qualifications on a year-for-year basis, with 30 college credits equating to one year of experience.
  • A criminal background check, pre-employment physical, polygraph examination, and psychological evaluation are mandatory for the selected candidate, with results potentially influencing employment decisions.
Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $68,568 annually, with compensation commensurate with experience. TU offers a comprehensive benefits package, including annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; exceptional health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
