Spelman College is seeking a dedicated Clinical Laboratory Technician or Scientist to join our esteemed laboratory team. This full-time position will involve supporting our advanced Automated Testing Lab with a consistent evening schedule, including rotating weekends and holidays.

Clinical Laboratory Technician Sign-On Bonus:
$7,000 for a 2-year commitment
$10,000 for a 3-year commitment

Clinical Laboratory Scientist Sign-On Bonus:
$10,000 for a 2-year commitment
$15,000 for a 3-year commitment

Key Responsibilities:
Adhere to established testing protocols to ensure precision and accuracy in a timely manner. Identify critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results, following up according to established guidelines.
Independently conduct Moderately Complex or Waived tests (both qualitative and quantitative).

Perform High Complexity testing only under the supervision of a Medical Technologist or with result review by a Supervisor or Manager.

Conduct and document Quality Control in accordance with established protocols. Notify supervisory personnel and/or pathologists of any unusual or problematic occurrences.
Assist in the training and orientation of new staff, students, and residents, following established competency and operational guidelines.
Monitor and maintain supplies for which the position is responsible, ensuring cost-effective use of materials and reagents.
Process specimens for analysis.

Accurately enter patient demographic information and laboratory test orders into the laboratory information system, ensuring the adequacy of patient information and sample integrity.

Comply with all established laboratory and institutional policies, procedures, methods, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and personnel policies.
Follow all biohazard, chemical, and sharps safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
Perform routine maintenance on instruments, including procedural calibrations, quality control, and troubleshooting as necessary.

Qualifications:

Clinical Laboratory Scientist:
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program, OR
Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification, OR
Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years of experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory, OR

Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 and PA Bureau of Laboratories for technologists performing high complexity testing.

Preferred: 1-year experience in a hospital laboratory setting. Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems is advantageous.

Clinical Laboratory Technician:
Associate Degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as either a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) OR;
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science OR;
Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
Completion of an MLT program is highly preferred.
Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems is advantageous.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification is preferred.
