Role Overview:

The Animal Care Technician plays a vital role in assisting veterinarians and technicians in providing outstanding patient care while ensuring smooth hospital operations. This full-time position, which offers weekends off, requires a combination of technical expertise, empathetic patient handling, and effective client communication.

Key Duties:

Patient Support:
Deliver compassionate care to all animals, including proper handling and restraint, soothing anxious pets, feeding, exercising, and grooming.

Clinical Support:
Aid in surgical procedures, monitor anesthesia, and administer medications. Conduct blood draws, vaccinations, injections, and laboratory analyses.

Technical Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain medical equipment such as EKGs, fluid pumps, and anesthetic monitors. Fill prescriptions, calculate dosages, and ensure the secure handling of controlled substances.

Client Engagement:

Welcome patients and their owners, perform initial evaluations (including weight and vital signs), and inform clients about wellness programs and insurance options.

Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor with clients at all times.

Facility Upkeep:
Ensure the cleanliness of the hospital, including the sanitation of equipment, kennels, and common areas. Adhere to safety and health regulations and complete laundry tasks.

Administrative Assistance:
Keep accurate medical records, assist with clerical duties, and support the promotion of hospital products and services.

Essential Qualifications:

Experience:
Ideally, one or more years in a veterinary setting performing relevant responsibilities.

Physical Abilities:
Capability to stand for extended periods and lift a minimum of 40 lbs.

Interpersonal Skills:
Strong communication, teamwork, time management, and customer service abilities. Must be personable, professional, and adept at multitasking.

Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with hospital protocols, policies, and equipment, including computer systems and standard veterinary terminology.
