Position Overview:

As a vital component of the Revenue Cycle team, the Patient Access Specialist I plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate patient registration and delivering exceptional customer service. This position is essential for minimizing denials and enhancing customer satisfaction while effectively managing bad debt.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct interviews with patients through various methods to gather necessary demographic and insurance information, creating or validating patient medical records.
  • Demonstrate expertise in insurance coverage, benefits, and regulations to ensure accurate information is provided, facilitating expected payment for services rendered.
  • Utilize electronic eligibility tools and other resources to verify and allocate insurance plans, taking appropriate actions for services, including non-covered and out-of-network situations.
  • Educate patients regarding charges and out-of-pocket responsibilities, establishing payment plans when necessary for both professional and technical services.
  • Accurately calculate, collect, and post payments such as co-pays and deductibles, striving to meet collection targets and productivity standards.
  • Safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI) and take measures to prevent duplicate medical records or incorrect patient selections.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities and contribute to ensuring a positive experience for patients and customers through wayfinding and assistance.
Additional Duties:

Engage in other related responsibilities as assigned, adhering to all policies and standards. Maintain compliance with training and regulations concerning the use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in healthcare or customer service (Required); 2+ years preferred.
  • Skills: Proficiency in utilizing complex software solutions, strong communication abilities, and the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional Attributes: Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of independent and collaborative work.
Physical Demands:

Ability to perform various physical tasks, including standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, with occasional lifting and carrying of light weights.
