Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative I to join our Dermatology team at University Hospitals. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview and register patients in a face-to-face setting or over the phone
  • Enter and validate medical, demographic, insurance, financial, and business data in a timely and courteous manner
  • Prepare standard patient materials, including forms, labels, brochures, and surveys
  • Maintain confidential health records and process physician orders
  • Schedule patients and identify the need for interpreter services
  • Provide patient education on third-party coverage and liabilities
  • Communicate possible payment options and connect patients to financial counselors as needed
  • Collect, post, and balance co-pays, deductibles, and other patient payments
  • Maintain expertise in PAS legal and compliance requirements and incorporate principles into workflows
  • Handle patient inquiries regarding services and logistics to ensure maximum throughput and minimal delay
  • Recruit and train patients to access My UH Care Personal Health Record
  • Ensure achievement of productivity and quality standards
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer systems, insurance/government regulations, and UH/PAS policies/procedures used within the department
Requirements
  • High School Equivalent/GED (Required) and Associate's Degree or progress towards degree (Preferred) and Medical Terminology (Preferred)
  • 1+ years experience in call center, patient registration, scheduling, office, banking, customer service, or related medical field using computers (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to use PCs and toggle between multiple applications, MS Office, and general office equipment (Required)
  • Excellent keyboarding/data entry skills (Required)
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem-solving ability (Required)
  • Notable client service, communication, and relationship-building skills (Required)
  • Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment (Required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent spelling (Required)
  • Professional demeanor (Required)
