We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative I to join our team at University Hospitals. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide comprehensive administrative support to our patients and healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interview and register patients in a face-to-face setting or over the phone, ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
- Enter and validate medical, demographic, insurance, financial, and business data to maintain master patient index integrity and create accurate claims.
- Prepare patient materials, including forms, labels, brochures, and surveys.
- Maintain confidential health records, process physician orders, and schedule patients.
- Identify and communicate the need for interpreter services.
- Provide patient education on third-party coverage and liabilities.
- Communicate possible payment options and connect patients with financial counselors as needed.
- Collect, post, and balance co-pays, deductibles, and other patient payments.
- Maintain expertise in PAS legal and compliance requirements and incorporate principles into workflows.
- Handle patient inquiries regarding services and logistics to ensure timely access to care.
- Recruit and train patients to access My UH Care Personal Health Record.
- Ensure achievement of productivity and quality standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer systems, insurance/government regulations, and UH/PAS policies/procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Function as an integrated team member and work collaboratively with other staff and providers to improve patient experience and department efficiency.
- Participate in UH emergency preparedness.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Be cross-trained to perform other duties as assigned.
- May be scheduled to work at off-sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
Requirements:
- High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
- Associate's Degree or progress towards degree (Preferred)
- Medical Terminology (Preferred)
- 1+ years experience in call center, patient registration, scheduling, office, banking, customer service, or related medical field using computers (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to use PCs and toggle between multiple applications, MS Office, and general office equipment (Required)
- Excellent keyboarding/data entry skills (Required)
- Detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem-solving ability (Required)
- Notable client service, communication, and relationship-building skills (Required)
- Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment (Required)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent spelling (Required)
