We are currently seeking a part-time Attending Veterinarian to join our In Vivo Services Department, working three days a week on-site.

Key Responsibilities

The Attending Veterinarian will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert consultation on animal health and welfare, including reviewing client protocols and ensuring appropriate anesthesia and analgesia are utilized for laboratory animals.
  • Overseeing the animal care and use program, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory guidelines and health and safety protocols.
  • Managing daily operations of the veterinary service team and ensuring adherence to established protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Training staff on animal care and use as necessary.
  • Participating in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) processes and oversight functions.
  • Implementing effective methods for the prevention, control, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and injuries in laboratory animals.
  • Performing surgical procedures and providing anesthesia support as required by study sponsors.
  • Overseeing the enrichment committee and being available for after-hours consultation regarding animal health emergencies.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Doctoral degree (DVM/VMD) from an accredited veterinary school or an equivalent qualification.
  • A current California Veterinarian License.
  • A minimum of one year of veterinary experience.
  • Demonstrated veterinary diagnostic knowledge and basic surgical skills, including post-operative care.
  • Experience with laboratory animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, and mice is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Familiarity with general laboratory animal medicine and surgery is advantageous but not essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being capable of independent work within established guidelines.

Compensation: The pay range for this part-time position is competitive and will be determined based on internal equity and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 401k plan.
