Denver, Colorado, United States Burns & McDonnell Full time

Position Overview

The Lead Geological Consultant will oversee environmental remediation and stratigraphic analysis projects from inception to completion, modifying strategies based on financial limitations, design considerations, and client requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical foundation in geology, particularly in stratigraphy, geomorphology, and sedimentology, alongside extensive experience in remediation investigations, consulting, and project management.

Key Responsibilities

+ Conduct thorough research and analysis of regional geological conditions and depositional environments pertinent to project sites, ensuring the identification of suitable facies models that accurately reflect subsurface conditions.

+ Implement Environmental Sequence Stratigraphic (ESS) methodologies on intricate data sets, which include lithologic borings, downhole, and surface geophysical data (such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Gamma and e-logs, Electrical Conductivity/Hydraulic Profiling Tool, Seismic, and ground penetrating radar).

+ Collaborate with project hydrogeologists to assess potentiometric data, delineate hydrostratigraphic units, and interpret implications for contaminant transport and fate.

+ Design and develop stratigraphic cross-section profiles, evaluating individual boring logs and applying graphic grain size logs (GSLs) coding.

+ Execute stratigraphic interpretations of subsurface data, integrating knowledge of regional geology, depositional environments, and facies models to formulate sound geological interpretations and correlations.

+ Create and convey geologically based conceptual site models utilizing various digital and hard copy platforms.

+ Evaluate soil and groundwater data, identify gaps in data, and formulate comprehensive soil and groundwater sampling strategies, compiling analytical results for soil, air, and groundwater.

+ Prepare proposals and reports for environmental projects, ensuring clarity and technical accuracy.

+ Develop and present technical reports for clients and industry publications, showcasing expertise and findings.

+ Utilize in-depth knowledge of standard environmental practices, codes, and procedures relevant to the environmental consulting sector.

+ Apply expertise to complex projects, devising innovative solutions to non-standard challenges.

+ Lead the preparation of work plans, investigation reports, feasibility studies, remedial designs, and implementation strategies.

+ Engage in project scheduling, scope definition, budget planning, staffing, and construction planning.

+ Participate in business development initiatives, identifying key opportunities for growth.

+ Provide mentorship and guidance to junior geoscientists, fostering professional development within the environmental engineering practice.

+ Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and maintain effective communication with other environmental and engineering disciplines.

+ Uphold compliance with company and site safety protocols.

+ Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

+ A Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related Environmental field from an ABET accredited institution is mandatory.

+ A Master's degree in Geology with a focus on stratigraphy is preferred.

+ A minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental consulting is required, with a preference for 10 years.

+ A Professional Geologist (PG) license is preferred.

+ Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) are essential, with familiarity in software such as Adobe Illustrator, Rockworks, Leap Frog, Openground, ArcGIS, and other geoscience applications being advantageous.

+ Completion of OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training (and annual updates) is required.

+ Basic understanding of OSHA, CERCLA, and remedial design is necessary.

+ Experience with Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments and site investigations, including soil and groundwater sampling, logging soil borings, and data analysis is beneficial.

+ Familiarity with State and/or Federal regulations is desired.

+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.

+ Proven experience in leading large projects and delegating tasks effectively within a team environment.

+ Demonstrated critical thinking abilities, with a methodical and analytical approach to problem-solving.

+ Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team-building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills are crucial.

+ Capability to conduct quality reviews for environmental reports and deliverables.

+ Willingness to travel as needed.
