Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Mechanic - Essential Support Systems to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing industrial equipment, including large overhead cranes, rigging gear, and rail tracks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings to troubleshoot and repair equipment
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and resolve technical issues
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on industrial equipment, including couplings, gearboxes, brakes, motors, and mechanical systems
  • Work at heights, including ascending long staircases and ladders, and working from elevated surfaces
  • Qualify for various radiological and environmental qualifications as required
  • Document maintenance and repair activities using precision instruments, such as torque wrenches and micrometers
Requirements:
  • 2 years of vocational training in Mechanical or Automotive Technology, or 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical troubleshooting and repair
  • High school degree or equivalent, or military mechanical and technical field-related experience
  • Experience with overhead crane maintenance and load testing, and knowledge of crane mechanical systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate a self-motivated approach to work
