Medical Lab Technician/Medical Lab Scientist Job Opportunity

UPMC Shadyside is seeking a full-time Medical Lab Technician or Medical Lab Scientist to support the Automated Testing Lab. This role will work a steady evening shift schedule (2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.), with rotating weekends and holidays.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a patient-focused and team-oriented laboratory specializing in world-renowned oncology. As a Medical Lab Technician or Medical Lab Scientist, you will be part of a dynamic and diverse team that takes great pride in what they do for patients and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Interact with laboratory customers professionally and respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures with precision and accuracy.
  • Recognize critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follow up according to established protocols.
  • Process specimens for analysis and enter accurate patient demographic information into the laboratory information system.
Requirements

Medical Laboratory Scientist:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university and successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program.
  • ASCP categorical certification or at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.

Medical Lab Technician:

  • Associate Degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as either a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA).
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience.

Preferred qualifications include familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems, as well as a minimum of 1 year's experience in a hospital laboratory.
