Faculty Position in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Research

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities is actively seeking to appoint new tenure-track faculty members at the levels of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor within the Department of Psychiatry. This department has pinpointed neurodevelopment, neuroplasticity, and neuromodulation as pivotal domains for advancing research that will significantly enhance our understanding of the origins and early manifestations of mental health disorders.
The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is dedicated to generating new insights into the causes and mechanisms underlying mental health challenges in youth. Our goal is to innovate methods for earlier identification and more effective intervention strategies.
Position Details:
Assistant Professor roles will be on the Tenure Track; candidates applying for this level are expected to possess relevant training and research achievements that align with the development of an independent and nationally recognized research program. For Associate Professor and Professor roles, candidates will be eligible for Tenure Track or Tenure; these positions necessitate a proven record of independence and research output, including a robust history of securing major external funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Research Support:
Key institutional resources available to bolster research in child and adolescent psychiatry include:
- The Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR), renowned for its advanced capabilities in high-field, high-resolution imaging.
- Collaborative opportunities with faculty from prestigious research departments and centers, such as the Institute of Child Development, Departments of Psychology, Neuroscience, and Computer Sciences and Engineering, and the Institute for Translational Research in Children's Mental Health.

Qualifications:
Qualified applicants will hold either an MD or DO degree, have completed specialized training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and demonstrate a successful research track record in this area, which may include:
- Investigating normal and abnormal developmental pathways in youth to elucidate neurodevelopmental foundations of psychiatric conditions.
- Formulating strategies for early detection, intervention, and prevention of mental health issues.
- Employing an experimental therapeutics approach to create innovative interventions targeting neurobiological aspects in children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders, aiming to restore healthy developmental pathways.
- Utilizing neuromodulation techniques (e.g., brain stimulation, cognitive training) to enhance understanding of neurodevelopment and neuroplasticity in both affected and unaffected youth.
